We are on the lookout for an enthusiastic and imaginative Intermediate Lighting Designer to join our dynamic team.

Responsibilities

As an Intermediate Lighting Designer at Studio Aurora, you will play a vital role throughout the entire project lifecycle - from initial concept to final construction - offering creative insights, technical expertise, and project management capabilities.

This position is perfect for an individual with several years of experience who is prepared to take responsibility for specific aspects of a project, guide junior team members, and promote design excellence.

Collaborating with experienced professionals in the field, you'll play a vital role in developing your skills and gaining hands-on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design & Concept Development

  • Lead and support the development of lighting concepts and visual storytelling across various project types aligning with project objectives and client expectations.
  • Produce design presentations, mood boards, and lighting narratives that communicate design intent.
  • Research lighting strategies, technologies, and sustainable practices.

2. Technical Documentation & Calculations

  • Work closely with documentation team to develop detailed lighting drawings, schedules, and specifications using AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Perform lighting calculations using DIALux to ensure compliance with performance and code requirements.
  • Assist in selecting appropriate lighting fixtures, controls, and equipment to achieve desired aesthetics and technical outcomes.
  • Review and coordinate fixture selections, mock-ups, and samples.

3. Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with clients, architects, interior designers, engineers, and contractors to integrate lighting seamlessly into projects.
  • Assist in project planning, documentation control, and meeting deadlines.
  • Coordinate with manufacturers and vendors for product information, lead times, and procurement support.

4. Mentoring & Studio Contribution

  • Utilize various channels such as cold calling, email outreach, networking events, and social media platforms to generate leads.
  • Qualify leads based on predefined criteria and prioritize them for further engagement.
  • Establish a primary contact for clients and actively seek new clients through cold calling, email outreach, networking, and LinkedIn.
  • Identify and participate in networking events, especially those frequented by designers and architects. These events are likely to take place in the evenings or outside of regular hours.

5. Business Generation

  • Collaborate with the management to provide them with qualified leads, market insights, and support materials.
  • Assist in developing marketing materials: portfolio, press releases, presentations, social media content and proposals tailored to specific client needs.
  • Provide feedback and insights from the field to refine business strategies and improve conversion rates.

Qualifications

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Lighting Design, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in architectural lighting design, with a portfolio that demonstrates both creative and technical capability.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for lighting design and a strong desire to grow in the field.
  • Proficiency in lighting design software (e.g. Photoshop, Dialux, AutoCAD, and Revit knowledge).
  • Solid understanding of electrical coordination, lighting controls, and lighting design standards.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
